Our brief was to elevate the whole visitor experience of Air New Zealand’s 75th anniversary exhibition through a suite of custom-designed graphics. Working with Workshop E (and multiple stakeholders), our approach was to celebrate the airline's provenance and current promise: liberation.

We created a special typeface inspired by the 75-year logo and then developed a graphic hierarchy for each exhibition section – from headline through to object label. The challenge was to balance the old and new – to achieve an exciting, contemporary feel while also reflecting history and a unique national character. We assisted with editing to achieve the right amount of historical information and detail for diverse user requirements. The landmark exhibition needed to have the broadest possible appeal to connect with audiences from Kiwi school children to international tourists. We created a digital menu interface on iPad screens, and 3D sculpture ideas form bold markers of diverse and different conversations and spaces – from industrial design to future flight to children’s interactive play spaces.
